Election movie 1999 - Reese Witherspoon - A query?

This is a great movie! My understanding of the movie was that Tracy was not involved in telling Diane that Jim was interested in Linda. I think Linda felt guilty about kissing Jim earlier in the day and agreeing to meet with him at the hotel so she confessed what happened to Diane. Diane felt that Jim had taken advantage of Linda because she was vulnerable after her divorce. What puts Jim on the downward spiral of events we see in the movie is his goal of plotting revenge on Tracy. Jim wanted revenge on Tracy because she had an affair with his friend and fellow colleague Dave before the movie begins, leading Dave to be fired and divorced while nothing happened to Tracy.
