6 month Indian tourist visa?

I last renewed my 6 month Indian tourist visa at Glas Haus in Bangkok. I need another but have been told that the rules have changed & that I will only get 3 months unless I go back to my own country for it. I am British. Does anyone know if this is true or false please ?
